Losing your root password isn’t the end of the world, though. You’ll just need to reboot into single user mode to reset it. Here’s how to do it on a typical Ubuntu machine with the GRUB bootloader:

Apply a lock to your iPhone, and it’ll ask you for a four-digit passcode. However, it’ll also let you make an emergency call. Go into the menu to dial the emergency number, perform a quick double-click on the ‘home’ button, and your phone’s favorites menu will appear.
Not only that, if you’ve changed the settings then whatever you’ve applied to the double tap action will pop open.

Most solutions for getting around the captive portals used in $7 airport wireless services involve sniffing the network and spoofing authenticated MAC addresses. An old post from 2006 by Felix Geisendörfer who discovered that some of these proxy systems are set up to allow pictures through before payment.

If you’ve ever saved a password when connecting to a website that requires authentication, for a remote desktop session or a mapped drive, you might have wondered where those passwords are saved. You can view these by going to the Start button then the Run dialog box and paste this:
rundll32.exe keymgr.dll, KRShowKeyMgr
or
control keymgr.dll

Lost your password for NT,2K,XP,2K3?
illwill from illmob.org created a DOS based floppy that you can boot with that will mount an ntfs drive and extract the SAM hashes from an NT based system. You can then use any cracking software or free hash cracking sites to recover your lost password.
